Summer Camp

Summer Camp is our residential Aikido camp occurring yearly during the first 2 weeks of July. It is a DAY CAMP, meaning children get to go home after camp and enjoy other activities during that week. More details about 2025 Summer camp and registration here.

Aikido practice

Summer camp is a way for our students to immerse themselves in a daily practice of Aikido, refine their skills, and gain greater awareness of their movements and forms. It is also an opportunity to train and connect with different students from different schools and enjoy practicing with new partners.

Beginners (new) students are also welcome to join. They will be partnered with more experienced students for some activities and at other time will be practicing separately with same-level students to focus on safe falls (ukemi) and basic techniques.

Martial Field Trips

We have 2 martial art field trips over Summer Camp. The first field trip is to the Aikikai Headquarters (Hombu Dojo) where students get to meet the great grand-son of Aikido’s founder and dojo-cho, Mistuteru Ueshiba, and ask him questions about Aikido. Students get to visit the dojo and learn more about the history of Aikido. Our second field trip is to the Kodokan museum, where students learn about the more general history of budo and see the impressive eight-story dojo.

Outdoor Activities

Beside our daily bokken (wooden sword) training at the nearby park, we take a weekly trip to Akiruno, West Tokyo, where we play by the Akigawa river and do suica-wari (watermelon striking). The culmination of our bokken training is suica-wari and we all get to enjoy Watermelon by the river after the activity!

Fall Camp

Fall camp is our first gasshuku (training camp) of the school year, which occurs in October during Fall break. It is a 3 day 2 nights sleepover camp. Fall camp takes place either by the sea in Shirahama (Boso Peninsula) of Chiba prefecture or by the forest in Akiruno, West Tokyo. More details for 2025 Fall camp and registration coming soon.
